A website and business email, set up properly
For businesses of 1 to 20 people. A fast website of 5 to 10 pages, written for you, business email in your own name, and the settings that stop other people sending mail as you. A 5 to 10 page site is $2,500, usually live in about two weeks.
Sound familiar?
- The person who built your website left, and nobody can log in to change it.
- The domain is registered to a former employee, a web agency, or nobody remembers who.
- Staff use free personal email addresses for work.
- A customer received a fake invoice that looked like it came from you.
- Your emails keep landing in customers' spam folders.
- The site is slow, out of date, or shows a security warning in the browser.
What's included
- Your website
- 5 to 10 pages, written by the engineer from a call with you, so you don't have to write it yourself. You review every word before it goes live.
- Hosting
- A fast, simple static site hosted on your own Cloudflare account, with low or no monthly hosting cost.
- Your domain
- Registered in your business's name, with you as the owner and the logins handed to you.
- Business email
- Addresses on your own domain for everyone who needs one, licensed in your own name, with two-step sign-in turned on.
- Protection against fake email
- SPF, DKIM and DMARC set up and moved to enforcement, so email providers can spot mail pretending to be from you and refuse it. It also helps your real email stay out of spam.
- Contact forms
- A secure contact form if the site needs one, protected against spam.
- Handover
- A written record of what was set up, where it lives, and how to get into it.
Why it's set up this way
Everything is registered to you. If you stop working with MercIT Labs, you keep the website, the domain and the email, and you already have the logins. You pay for the domain and email licences directly, in your own name, on the practice's advice. Nothing is resold to you.
A static site has no admin panel and no plugins to keep patched, which removes one of the most common ways small business websites get broken into. It is also fast, and cheap to run.
How it works
- You email contact@mercitlabs.com. There are no forms.
- A 30-minute call about the business and what the site needs to say.
- The engineer writes the pages and sets up the domain, email and protection. You review the words before anything goes live.
- The site goes live, usually about two weeks after the call, and you get the handover notes.
If you've had the onboarding assessment, this is usually the first fix on the list. If you only need a website and email, say so on the first call.
Price
$2,500 for a 5 to 10 page site with the domain and email set up. A bigger site is quoted in writing before any work starts.
Common questions
Do I have to write the website?
No. The engineer writes it from your call. You review it and ask for changes before it goes live.
We already have business email. Do we have to switch?
Usually not. Existing business email can often be kept and secured instead of replaced. The first call settles which makes sense.
What are SPF, DKIM and DMARC?
Three settings on your domain that tell email providers which servers may send mail for you, and what to do with mail that fails the check. Together they make it much harder for someone to send a fake invoice in your name.
Who looks after the site afterwards?
You own it, so you can take it anywhere. If you want it looked after, small changes and upkeep are part of a part-time IT department.
